Collectors of fine landscape paintings are well familiar with the beautiful impressionist landscapes of Evelyn Faherty (1919-2015), an artist from the Pennsylvania impressionist school of painting.

In her later years, Evelyn shared her time between Yardley, Pennsylvania, and Siesta Key, Florida, where my wife and I came to know her personally and were privileged to call her a friend.

I met her while she was painting on the beach and I happened to jog by. I had been collecting her paintings and recognized the style, so I stopped to talk with her. I was so thrilled to meet the artist in person! Eventually I became her exclusive Florida broker for many years and at one time had more than 400 of her paintings, which now range from $1,000 to $3,000.

Evelyn was an upbeat, beautiful person with striking eyes. A New Jersey native, she moved to Yardley, Pennsylvania, in the 1970's. She studied under famous Bucks County, Pennsylvania, impressionists John Folinsbee and Harry Leith-Ross, and before her death was possibly the last living artist with ties to that group.

The Hopewell Valley, the Delaware River and Bucks County are among the many serene subjects depicted in her art, working in oil, watercolor and pastel. Her paintings reside in corporate and private collections around the world and she is a listed artist in the Michener Museum and Smithsonian Institution.

Several of her pieces, including views of Siesta Key's Turtle Beach and Midnight Pass, will be on display in October at Sarasota Trading Company, 522 S. Pineapple Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34236. Please join us in celebrating one of Sarasota's finest treasures.
