My visit to Community Haven
What a wonderful time I had on Friday on my tour of the Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities over on DeSoto Road! CHAC Development Director Marla Doss was kind enough to accompany me round the grounds to meet all the fantastic residents and staff.
I'm doing a special radio show with Marla and CHAC President Peg Connell on Tuesday, September 9 from 2 - 3 pm, so watch out for that. Meanwhile, here's a shout-out to all you wonderful Haveners, and especially tireless staffers Michelle & Penny, Corinne & April, Nisha, Angelina, Renata, Frank, Marie, Liz, Jay and Carolyn!
Kaleidoscope is a musical theatre workshop for teens and adults with developmental disabilities (Downs Syndrome, mental retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and various other mental, physical and emotional disabilities) offered in partnership with the Asolo and CHAC.
The touring company was conceived as a way to make room for new participants. It is an opportunity for veterans of the program to continue their personal growth, meeting new challenges as they perform for schools, churches, and community organizations.
Ladies & Gentlemen: next season the Kaleidoscope touring company is going to need a generous Angel. A person or organization that will provide the money for these terrific people to tour and perform. About $ 40,000. Are you that wonderful donor? If you are, or you'd like to contribute some money or time, contact Marla Doss at (941) 355-8808, Ext. 224 or mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Sponsoring possibilities are endless. As is the gratitude and love of the Community Haven residents and staff. Please help them.

Curtain Call 2008
I'd like to thank EVERYONE who went online and voted in the Sarasota Herald Tribune's Curtain Call - I am honored to have won Best Supporting Actor, Play for my performance as Val in last season's Golden Apple Dinner Theatre production of Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor.
You can read about all the winners in Jay Handelman's piece in yesterday's Herald Tribune, which I've posted in "Press".
I'm ecstatic! Thanks to Jay for nominating me, and to you for voting for me!

My August article tells of a kind of magic - read how 100 Fairy Godmothers are helping Habitat for Humanity to get down and dirty to build a house!
And they all lived happily ever after ... well, except for a few blisters.
