Once again, a riveting “Tosca” to remember in Sarasota

Posted on March 14, 2009 at 11:30am 0 Comments

By Lawrence A. Johnson

SARASOTA—All opera aficionados live for those rare performances when everything—singing, acting, conducting and staging—come together to create a night in the theater that you never forget. Five years ago it happened at Sarasota Opera with a production of Tosca so wired with crackling intensity it provided one of the most thrilling, if nerve-wracking, performances… Continue

Verdi on the grand scale, gloriously sung

By Lawrence A. Johnson

SARASOTA. Epic sweep and breadth, a dozen roles, majestic court scenes, rousing choruses, and a tangled love quadrangle set against a treacherous milieu of deadly power politics that makes Machiavelli seem like a bumpkin. Such is the world of Verdi’s Don Carlos, presented Tuesday night at Sarasota… Continue

Opera finds a recipe for love
by Jay Handelman.

In years past, Mara Bonde has sung the role of Adina in "The Elixir of Love," but she doesn't think it counts as she prepares to return to the role Saturday night at the Sarasota Opera.

Hello Sarasota Opera, thank you for joining as my friend. I have been to so many great Opera's there! Also I have been there since before it was the Opera when I used to go there in the mid 60's to watch Saturday morning cartoons and movies when it was a theatre. I did contact the Opera last season, as I would still be interested in working with the Opera for fundraisers with my Hand Print Pavers. Best wishes, Sean

Hi Rich,

Adding the Opera is a great idea. Feel free to use the calendar to put in the different show dates, of course.
